Ordering healthy meals should be easy.

About Methodology

Methodology works to deliver high-quality, sustainable, ready-to-eat meals for busy professionals. Delivered in glass jars. Grounded in food as medicine.

My Role

I worked as a solo lead designer with the founder of Methodology to bring to life her vision of making a food ordering app simple, repeatable, and frictionless.

Goals

What are we solving?

Customer retention was the goal of the project. We wanted to encourage users to explore and customize their meal plans with a frictionless experience. The app needed to be highly customizable to niche diets, able to be changed rapidly, and meet customer demands of knowing what their food will look like when it arrives.

Who is this for?

Existing Methodology Customers that have already downloaded and onboarded into the mobile app with their account, have already uploaded their preferences, and have placed at least one order previously.

Process and Deliverables

Customer Journey and Prioritized Painpoints

Define the current customer painpoints via user stories and statements. Quantify how urgent and important each of the themes are.

Audit existing experience, interview customers

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more.

Problem Statement

Customers are not reordering via the app. They are not taking advantage of the variety offered by the meal prep service.

Reduce the time spent ordering and prepping food. Make the app a time saver in repeating favorite meals and planning weeks ahead of time.

Looking only at those who identified themselves as the household’s usual meal preparer, the time spent in meal prep on an average day is 51 minutes.

Goals

Increase % of customers reordering via the app weekly. The hypothesis is that by offering more customization, less complexity in ordering, and a clear visual of what to expect, that customers will retain at a higher rate.

Save time

The redesigned app allowed users to cut out time as they reordered previous meals, and helped the customer make smart choices and see options and exclusions during the process.

Findability and Scanability

I brought in images of the food for inspiration, and filters with visual icons to help users identify the right items for their dietary restrictions.

Features and Solution

A sticky, engaging tool for ordering prepared meals

Reorder

The redesigned flow allows customers to reorder quickly, but make modifications as needed to their re-order.

This was inspired by the Grubhub app and their ‘express reorder’ feature.

Personalized

Skip a delivery, make exceptions, modify your meal plan any way you want. Customers have additional settings and modifications to each meal.
